Experts in trench compaction
22. April 2009

Whether narrow utility trenches or classic canal construction: much-feared surface subsidence can only be avoided if compaction work is carried out with suitable machinery. Ammann is represented in this special segment by a broad selection of powerful vibratory plates.

Last year Ammann celebrated the 10th anniversary of 3-shaft technology together with its customers. The exciter concept has an exceptional track record in both surface and trench compaction. In addition to high compaction output and outstanding manoeuvrability, it is in particular the obvious advantage of enhanced climbing ability that make the on average between 400 and almost 700 kg models of the AVH 5030/AVH 6030 and AVH 100-20 ranges so interesting for trench compaction work. The generated centrifugal force lies between 50 and 100 kilonewtons (kN), depending on the machine.

A plus for safety: through the trench by remote control

The benefits of the machines' fully-hydraulic, stepless power steering come into their own when targeted, delicate trench compaction is required. And a largely encapsulated upper mass proves its value wherever trench wall material could fall onto the vibratory plate, in addition to providing a certain amount of noise protection. The remote-controlled model AVH 1000 TC is the star of the show when canal and trench compaction work places particularly high demands on operator safety. The advantages are compelling: the device is safely started and operated by remote control from the edge of the trench. The machine works with a centrifugal force of 70 kN and a vibration frequency of just 46 Hertz (Hz) to provide powerful compaction with a comparably high level of amplitude.
