The longest road in the world

Ammann Asphalt Pan American Highway

Buenos Aires was the venue for an agreement made in 1925 to build a road running along the Andes, the Cordilleras, the Sierras and the Rocky Mountains. The "Carretera Panamericana", or "Pan-American Highway", would stretch almost from pole to pole. This transcontinental road has been under construction ever since. All that is missing now is a 90-kilometre stretch through tropical swamp country between Panama and Colombia. Stretching from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, the "Panamericana" is the world’s longest road. Its 30,000 kilometres traverse 17 countries and surmount four climatic zones, six time zones and just about every kind of vegetation. The road signs along the way are far from uniform. Sections of highway are passable only during the dry season, while in other regions it is a dangerous thoroughfare to use at any time of year.

Ammann is increasingly and successfully on the road in North, Central and South America with its high-performance compaction machines and mixing plants.
