German federal rail authority Deutsche Bundesbahnen AG has assigned the reconditioning of a railway bridge in the region of Halle (Germany). The preliminary works carried out prior to construction included the installation of various supply lines, the disassembly of railway tracks and the erection of the steel superstructure. At the scene: numerous compactors from Ammann – some of the vibratory plates were equipped with the comprehensive compaction control system ACE.
Around 4,500 m³ of material had to be excavated for the new construction. The construction of the abutments and the assembly of the bridge were followed by filling the excavation pit and extensive backfilling for the two abutments. All of these tasks had to be completed within a very tight time frame.
Comprehensive compaction control provides safety
Up to eight hydraulic Ammann vibratory plates and an Ammann add-on compactor were at work on the site. Holger Walk, site manager at excavation company Burkhardt, praised in particular the reliability of the compactors and the outstanding compaction performance of Ammann's special three-shaft technology. The exciter concept has an exceptional track record in both surface and trench compaction.
Ammann's product range has included the two vibratory plates AVH 6030 ACE and AVH 100-20 ACE equipped with Ammann Compaction Expert (ACE), a comprehensive compaction control system, for quite some time. These compactors help avoid redundant transitions and detrimental over-compaction. They enable fast and efficient compaction work.
