As early as 1949, Ammann had built an asphalt paver that could change its track width during operation, up to a maximum of 4.5 m. Then in the early 1950s came the 205 compact paver design, which found such good market acceptance that it was soon followed by the wider 304 standard paver.
With track widths of 2.05 to 3.04 metres, both these pavers developed into true successes thanks to their extreme ease-of-use and simple, robust technology. During the 1960s, Ammann standard pavers sold in large numbers at home as well as abroad. However, sales figures gradually declined in the 1970s.
In 1980, Vögele pavers joined the Ammann range on sale in Switzerland. The third chapter of the Ammann paver success story is now beginning with paver technology that Ammann acquired from Antec in 2009. There were highly encouraging responses to the first models, including further proprietary developments, that were shown at Bauma 2010.
