1 January 2009 marked the 25th anniversary of the Ammann Group acquiring the Hennef-based company. Founded in 1963 by Benno Kaltenegger in Siegburg, the business began by making tandem vibratory rollers. Vibratory plates joined the line-up in 1977.
Through a twist of fate the company, which then belonged to the IBH Group, suffered in the fallout from a bank failure and was acquired by the Ammann Group at the start of 1984. In December 1992, operations transferred to a newly built factory at Josef-Dietzgen-Strasse 36.
Technical development milestones at Ammann Verdichtung GmbH include fully hydraulic vibratory plates (a world first at the 1980 Bauma show), patented 3-shaft technology with improved gradient and compaction performance (1998), and adaptation to vibratory plates of the ACE full-surface compaction control system from its established function in large rollers (Bauma 2007).
