The Ammann Group acquired IMA in Gelnhausen (southern Hesse province) in 1978, thus founding Ammann-IMA. When the steelworks in Alfeld went out of business in 1984, the Ammann Group bought up the premises and relocated the Ammann-IMA headquarters there. Steady investment and close ties with the parent company in Switzerland helped put the business in shape for the future and made it the German market leader.
Having acquired Wibau in 2000, the company adopted its present name of Ammann Asphalt GmbH. Today, Alfeld is the support centre and a dependable source of spare parts for Ammann, IMA, AE and Wibau plants all over the world.
